Heart & Circulation

Have you or a loved one suffered a heart attack during vascular surgery (surgery to your blood vessels)? Your input is needed on a review looking at the effects of interventions to the main blood vessels of the heart (coronary arteries) in preventing heart attacks during vascular surgery.

Skills / interests: Consumer (public, patient, carer) input

Heart attacks (myocardial infarctions) are the main cause of patient death and disability during vascular surgery (surgery on the blood vessels). It is thought that interventions to the blood vessels supplying the heart (coronary arteries) prior to vascular surgery (preoperative) might help to prevent a heart attack during surgery (perioperative), by opening up any narrowed or blocked arteries. However, it is unclear if such interventions work (i.e. decrease the number of heart attacks).

I have a review on Preoperative coronary interventions for preventing acute myocardial infarction in the perioperative period of major open vascular or endovascular surgeryand I am looking for a consumer to peer review it. Would you be interested in helping us with this article?

Cochrane considers a consumer to be a person with experience of the condition (in this case, someone undergoing vascular surgery), either as a patient or as a carer/family member of a patient. From a consumer perspective, we are interested if the language of the review, especially the language used in the Plain Language Summary, is accessible and if it feels relevant for those undergoing vascular surgery, such that it will be helpful to patients and carers with healthcare decision making.

While you are welcome to provide feedback on any aspect of the review, you can focus your attention on the summary sections. Our aim is for this to be a manageable task, that does not overburden consumer reviewers.

Thank you in advance for considering!

Ideal applicant

Anyone with experience of the condition, either as a patient or a carer/family member.
