A new PhD program “Applied Evidence Synthesis in Health Research” starts in 2024. The PhD program blends an innovative curriculum with international research at the Department for Evidence-Based Medicine and Evaluation at the University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria. It also offers the opportunity for international exchange within the Cochrane Network (Cochrane International Mobility Programme).
The PhD program’s courses include the following topics:
> Methods for conducting different types of evidence syntheses
> Comprehensive information retrieval from databases
> Biostatistics and modelling for health research
> Programming with R
> Applications of evidence syntheses in the health care system
> Communication and visualization of treatment effects and risks.
The PhD Program targets graduate students:
> interested in evidence synthesis research methodology and the practical usage of evidence synthesis in healthcare.
> working towards an international scientific career in clinical, public health, or health policy research
> aiming to engage with healthcare sector decision-makers
The study location is University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria (where Cochrane Austria is located). The duration of the program is 6 semesters full-time.

Students are selected by the PhD Committee based on their application and subsequent presentation of their dissertation plan at a hearing. The number of vacant PhD positions is limited.
