Skills / interests: Copy-editing and proof-reading, Risk of Bias assessment, Statistical analysis, Summary of Findings tables, Clinical peer review, Searching for evidence, Writing (drafting and editing)

The study addresses a critical gap in diagnostic equity by highlighting the impact of literacy on language assessment tools, specifically the Kannada version of the Western Aphasia Battery (WAB-K). Given Cochrane’s commitment to evidence-based healthcare and improving diagnostic accuracy, I believe this research aligns with your mission, particularly in addressing disparities in linguistically and educationally diverse populations.

Clarifications and Expectations for Co-Authors:

  1. No Prior WAB-K Experience Required:

    • Familiarity with the WAB or WAB-K is not a prerequisite.
    • Background materials (e.g., WAB-K overview, scoring manual, and key study findings) will be provided to co-authors.
    • Guidance and support will be offered to ensure that all contributors understand the context and methodology.
  2. Key Contributions Expected:

    • Manuscript Writing and Editing: Co-authors can contribute to structuring and refining sections of the manuscript (Introduction, Results, Discussion) using provided data and study outlines.
    • Literature Review and Citation: Focus on reviewing related studies in aphasia, literacy, and culturally adapted linguistic assessments. Familiarity with WAB is not required, but experience in synthesizing academic literature will be invaluable.
    • Clinical and Cultural Insights: Offer perspectives on diagnosis, rehabilitation strategies, and cultural contexts relevant to illiterate and semi-literate populations, particularly in India. This can be based on broader clinical or linguistic expertise.
  3. Skills and Experience Focus:

    • Strong academic writing skills for peer-reviewed journal submissions.
    • Experience in reviewing or interpreting statistical data (training on study-specific analyses will be provided as needed).
    • Knowledge in cognitive science, linguistics, or related fields to support the discussion and contextualization of findings.
  4. Guidance and Collaboration:

    • Co-authors will receive clear instructions on specific sections of the manuscript and tasks.
    • Regular collaboration meetings will be scheduled to address questions, provide updates, and review progress.
    • A lead author will coordinate contributions, ensuring alignment with the overall study objectives and adherence to journal guidelines.
  5. Time Commitment and Impact:

    • The commitment remains 10–15 hours per week for 6–8 weeks, with flexibility to focus on areas of expertise.
    • This collaborative effort offers an opportunity to gain familiarity with WAB-K, contribute to impactful research, and expand expertise in culturally adapted assessments.

Why Join as a Co-Author?

  1. Skill Development: Gain hands-on experience with linguistic assessments, culturally sensitive normative data, and academic publishing.
  2. Contribution to Equity: Play a pivotal role in advancing diagnostic practices for underrepresented populations.
  3. Professional Recognition: Receive authorship on a peer-reviewed publication, enhancing your academic and clinical profile.
  4. Mentorship and Collaboration: Work closely with an interdisciplinary team, building connections and learning new methodologies.

We look forward to collaborating with dedicated individuals who are passionate about advancing research in aphasia assessment and addressing literacy-related disparities in clinical diagnosis and rehabilitation. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful impact in linguistic and cognitive research!
