Do you or someone you know suffer from a chronic skin condition called plaque psoriasis? Your input is needed on a review looking at different medicines to treat the condition.
Skills / interests: Patient and public input
Psoriasis, a type of skin condition, is a long-term, autoimmune disease whereby the body's immune system mistakes healthy tissue as being foreign and attacks it.
Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis and usually affects the back, elbows, knees and scalp. It causes the cells to reproduce very quickly, resulting in patches of skin that are dry or covered in scales. The skin can be itchy, sore or both, and in severe cases, it may crack and bleed.
Depending on the severity of the symptoms, some people may need to take medicines that affect their immune system, to help control the symptoms. These are called systemtic medicines because they affect the whole body, and they are usually taken by mouth or injected.
I have a team who have updated their review on ‘Systemic pharmacological treatments for chronic plaque psoriasis: a network meta-analysis’, which looks at the benefits and harms of these medicines. Would you be interested in helping us with this article?
Cochrane considers a consumer to be a person with experience of the condition (in this case, plaque psoriasis), either as a patient or as a carer/family member of a patient. From a consumer perspective, we are interested in if the language of the review, especially the language used in the Plain Language Summary, is accessible and if it feels relevant for those with plaque psoriasis, such that it will be helpful to patients and carers with healthcare decision making.
While you are welcome to provide feedback on any aspect of the review, you can focus your attention on the summary sections. Our aim is for this to be a manageable task that does not overburden consumer reviewers.
Thank you in advance for considering!
