Statistician with network meta-analysis expertise for NIHR funded project

Skills / interests: Statistical analysis

Methodological skills / interests: Comparing multiple interventions (network meta-analysis and overviews)

Chronic Rhinosinusitis is a common condition affecting up to 10% of the adult population. First line medical treatment involves steroid nasal sprays and saline rinses. Second line treatments include oral corticosteroids, long term antibiotics, surgery and more recently, targeted biological therapies. We previously have undertaken a number of Cochrane reviews evaluating the effectiveness of these interventions. Since these were published there have been several new randomised controlled trials, including the MACRO study, which is a larger NIHR funded study comparing the effectiveness of surgery, long term macrolide antibiotics and placebo (https://workstream2.themacroprogramme.org.uk/). The MACRO programme was the first Programme Grant awarded to ENT and was prioritised by the NIHR for support during the pandemic. The main trial paper has been accepted for publication in the Lancet.

We, Carl Philpott, and Claire Hopkins, (Professors of Rhinology at UEA and KCL), as Co-Chief Investigators of the MACRO programme,  have been encourged to apply for follow-on funding to aid dissemination and hope to undertake a network meta-analysis to compare different interventions directly. We are working with an experienced researcher (Lee Hooper, Reader in research Synthesis, UEA) but are looking for someone with methodology/statistical expertise in NMA to join our team. We are developing a grant for submission in September, with costsings for all timespent on the project, with a start date likely next year. We imagine the task will run over a year but happy to be flexible with availability

Please get in touch if you would like further information.

Think you've got what it takes to get the job done for Claire?
